Hello. Here's why I'm writing.
I’ve been meaning to write in public for a while now. This is the version that finally went live.
A few things pushed me over the edge. The ideas I care about most keep showing up as bullet points or half-finished essays and never make it out. I need the pressure of a reader, even a quiet one.
I tried this before in the summer of 2019, going into my 2nd year of my Physics degree. I was never quite happy with it and left it behind. 7 years later and here we are.
Now I’m older, in the last year of an machine learning/physics PhD at a pivotal juncture between academia and industry. At a place where my thoughts and reflections might be useful to some people out there.
What you can expect
Three flavours, roughly.
Essays. Short pieces on decisions, attention, and the small daily skills that don’t fit in any textbook.
Analyses. I’ll take a dataset or a real problem and show my work. Bayesian thinking applied to slightly embarrassing personal questions. Charts. Code. Occasionally, a wrong answer I correct in public. Whatever I feel like solving.
Notes. Smaller things. A paper I liked. A quote I keep returning to. The edge of a thought I haven’t finished yet.
A small ask
If something here lands, tell me (e-mail). I’ll read all of it, and it will shape what gets written next. That’s the whole bargain of writing in public.
See you in the next one.
